1. India-flagged vessel sinks in Red Sea off Yemen Coast

An Indian-flagged commercial vessel, named MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank in the Red Sea off Yemen after being struck by a projectile, Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Tuesday. 14 seafarers—including all 13 Indian crew members and 1 foreign national were successfully rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard.  

India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack on the vessel, calling such incidents “deeply worrisome”.

2. Safran and Gas Turbine Research Establishment Proposes Fighter Engine JV to CCS

The Safran and Gas Turbine Research Establishment fighter engine joint venture proposal is now before India’s Cabinet Committee on Security. It is described as an engine planned at 120 kN of thrust in its initial form, followed by an uprated 140 kN version, with 9 prototypes which are to be built and certified. Reports state, India will hold 100% of the intellectual property on the powerplant.

3. Punjab Police bust 2 ISI-backed Cross-border Terror Modules, 9 Arrested

On Tuesday, Punjab Police said they busted two ISI-backed Cross-border Terror Modules. Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav posted on X mentioning the successful busting of the terror modules and that 9 individuals, including 4 juveniles, were arrested.

The police recovered 3 illegal pistols, 4 petrol bottle bombs, and 9 live cartridges from the arrested individuals. They said, further investigation is underway to identify the remaining members of the ISI-backed network.

4. Massive Search Operation launched in J&K’s Poonch

On Tuesday, a massive search operation was launched in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch District. The operation was underway after security forces received inputs about the suspected movement of terrorists at two locations in the remote Surankote area of the district.

The officials said the operation in the densely forested region is continuing although no contact or exchange of fire has taken place with the suspected terrorists so far.

5. Vice Admiral Vivek Dahiya assumed charge as the DG Project Seabird

Vice Admiral Vivek Dahiya, NM, assumed charge as the Director General Project Seabird on 01 Aug 26. The Flag Officer is an alumnus of Naval Academy, Goa, Joint Services Command and Staff College, Shrivenham, United Kingdom JSCSC, and Naval War College, Goa.

Project Seabird is India's largest naval infrastructure project, creating the strategic INS Kadamba naval base in Karwar, Karnataka, on the west coast.
