1. Israeli airstrikes in Qatar kill 6 people

Israel conducted airstrikes in the capital of Doha, where senior Hamas officials were present. The strikes were conducted on September 9.

This could be the turning point in the Israel-Palestine conflict, as Qatar is a key negotiator.

Israel took the responsibility of conducting strikes under  ‘Operation Summit of Fire’. Hamas, however, has denied that its negotiating team has survived, but 6 people were killed in the attack.

2. Italian Navy conducts PASSEX exercise with Indian Navy

The Italian Navy’s Andrea Doria Class Destroyer, ITS Caio Duilio, conducted a PASSEX exercise with the Indian Navy ship INS Surat. The exercise was conducted on September 9.

The exercise included tactical manoeuvres, seamanship evolutions, communication drills and flying operations, including cross-deck landing and aircraft tracking, said in a post on X by Western Command.

The engagement provided an opportunity to exchange best practices and enhance bilateral maritime interoperability. Both units proceeded with scheduled deployments on completion of the exercise.

3. Indian Armed Forces contingent departs for Exercise Zapad 2025 

An Indian Armed Forces contingent comprising 65 personnel departed on September 9  for the Mulino Training Ground, Nizhniy, Russia. The contingent will participate in the multilateral joint military exercise ZAPAD 2025. 

The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 10 to 16 September 2025. Belarus, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Congo, Mali, India, Iran, Niger, and Tajikistan are the participants, while Cambodia, China, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nicaragua, North Korea, Pakistan, Serbia, Thailand, the UAE, and Uzbekistan are observers.

The multilateral Exercise ZAPAD 2025 is aimed at enhancing military cooperation, improving interoperability, and providing a platform for participating armies to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures in the domains of conventional warfare and counter-terrorism operations.

4. Poland shoots down Russian drones 

Poland has shot down multiple Russian drones after a Russian air attack on western Ukraine. It is the first time in the Ukraine war that Warsaw has engaged assets in its airspace.

Poland's military command said Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drone-type objects during the Russian attack across the border in Ukraine.

"An operation is underway aimed at identifying and neutralising these objects ... weapons have been used, and service personnel are carrying out actions to locate the downed objects," it said in a statement.

5. Nepali man supplying Indian SIMs to ISI caught by Police.

A Nepali national, who was allegedly lured by Pakistan's ISI with the promise of a US visa and opportunities in journalism, has been arrested by the Delhi Police for supplying Indian SIM cards that were used by the spy agency for espionage activities.

The accused, identified as Prabhat Kumar Chaurasiya (43), a native of Nepal's Birganj, was arrested from east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area on August 28 following a tip-off, an officer said.

In exchange for the visa and job opportunity, he agreed to supply Indian SIM cards and gather information about sensitive defence establishments such as the DRDO and Army units, the officials said.

6. Australian Navy awards contract to Anduril for XL-AUV

The Royal Australian Navy has awarded Anduril a $1.7 billion contract to build, deliver and support its Ghost Shark fleet of Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (XL-AUVs).

Ghost Sharks are about the size of a minibus, 5.5 metres long and weighing 2.7 tonnes. They are designed to operate autonomously for up to 10 days at a depth of up to 6000 metres, allowing them to conduct missions too difficult or dangerous for crewed vessels.

The exact number of subs to be built has not been released, but Deputy PM Richard Marles said it would be “dozens”, and the first would be in the water by 2026.
