1. Indian Navy Warships Escort Crude Oil Tankers Amid Security Concerns

Warships INS Trishul and INS Aditya escorted two crude oil tankers- MT Compass and MT Thalatta- through the strategic chokepoint Bab-el-Mandeb amid heightened security tensions in the Red Sea.

The Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command posted on X about the escorting of the oil tankers on 9 & 10 August 2026.

This increased deployment follows an Indian-flagged commercial vessel sinking off the coast of Yemen last week, after being hit by an unprovoked projectile.

2. Indian Coast Guard Sign MoU with Hindalco Industries

Indian Coast Guard has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindalco Industries for manufacturing and supplying indigenous marine-grade aluminium for construction of ships.

The Coast Guard, in its official social media post, said that the pact promotes domestic manufacturing and supply of these ships, which will enhance operational efficiency, reduce import reliance and foster a robust domestic defence ecosystem.

3. Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi meets Bangladesh PM amid diplomatic strain over Sheikh Hasina

The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rehman following strained relations due to diplomatic tensions surrounding former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina.

In the meeting, Bangladesh urged India to “expedite” the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who took shelter in India after being deposed in 2024. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said that he felt “somewhat reassured” by the meeting held.

4. Indian Army Personnel rehearse 21-Gun Salute ahead of 15 August Celebrations

Ahead of Independence Day, Indian Army personnel rehearsed the ceremonial 21-gun salute near the Red Fort in Delhi. The rehearsal is part of preparations for the August 15 celebrations. Extensive Security measures are being implemented in New Delhi with around 1,500–2,000 police personnel deployed alongside over 1,000 cameras, including AI-enabled surveillance.

Independence Day 2026 celebrations will honour 150 Years of Vande Mataram and the spirit of ‘Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047’.
