1. Indian Army Chief meets UAE Land Forces Commander during visit

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, during his ongoing visit to the UAE from January 5 to January 6, interacted with Major General Staff Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami, Commander of the UAE Land Forces. Discussions focused on enhancing military engagement, training convergence, and advancing bilateral defence cooperation between India and the UAE.

The COAS also visited the Land Forces Museum, gaining insights into the rich history, traditions, and military heritage of the UAE Land Forces, according to a post on X by the Indian Army.

2. Indian Coast Guard commissions Samudra Pratap Pollution Control Vessel

The ship Samudra Pratap, the fourth specialised Pollution Control Vessel (PCV), was commissioned on January 5 by the Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, Director General Indian Coast Guard Paramesh Sivamani, and senior dignitaries.

The indigenously built vessel brings significant capability in maritime security and environmental protection. With advanced oil-spill response systems and over 60% indigenous content, the ship is set to substantially strengthen India’s pollution response and ensure cleaner and safer oceans.

3. Iraq seeking to acquire 14 Rafale F4 jets from France

Iraq is seeking to acquire 14 Rafale F4 fighter jets from France, with the deal reported to be in the final stages of negotiation, according to avionslegendaires.net. The proposed package reportedly includes ten single-seat Rafale C and four twin-seat Rafale B aircraft.

The Rafale F4 is the latest variant of Dassault Aviation’s omni-role fighter, featuring enhanced connectivity, improved sensor fusion, and network-centric warfare capabilities. It builds on the F3R standard with AI-assisted threat handling and advanced weapons such as the MICA NG missile, with a reported range of 80–100 km, and AASM Hammer precision-guided bombs.

4. Trump attacking Greenland would mean the end of NATO: Danish PM

Speaking to Danish broadcaster TV2 on January 5, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that any military attack on Greenland by former US President Donald J. Trump would effectively mean the end of NATO.

“I believe one should take the American president seriously when he says that he wants Greenland,” Frederiksen said, adding that if the US were to attack another NATO country militarily, “everything stops, including NATO and the security that has been established since the end of the Second World War.”

5. Thai Army says Cambodian forces violated 10-day truce

Thailand’s army said Cambodian forces violated a 10-day-old truce on January 6 by firing mortar rounds into Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani province, wounding one soldier. The injured soldier sustained shrapnel wounds and was evacuated for medical treatment, the army said in a statement.

The Thailand–Cambodia conflict has been ongoing since May 2025. Although the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord was signed in October 2025, fighting resumed between December 8 and 27 after the ceasefire collapsed. A 72-hour ceasefire was announced on December 27, but clashes have once again erupted.
