1. India & Japan Sign Memorandum Strengthening Maritime Ties

India & Japan have signed a Memorandum of Arrangement on Thursday to deepen maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. The agreement will strengthen maritime security cooperation, including information sharing, joint exercises, Search and Rescue, HADR, naval exchanges and logistical support. The agreement will further deepen cooperation between the Indian Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The memorandum was signed during talks held between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Japanese counterpart Shinjiro Koizumi in Delhi. The two ministers also agreed to advance reciprocal access to ship-repair facilities, with a formal arrangement expected to be concluded soon.
2. China will be India’s Principal Long-Term Competitor: Ex-Army Chief Naravne

Former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane has said that while Pakistan remains India's immediate security concern because of terrorism, however, China is India's principal long-term competitor. While not calling China a direct enemy, he stressed the need for strong military deterrence while resolving long-standing differences with China through dialogue.
"Pakistan and China are a totally different ballgame. We have fought wars with both of them. We have unsettled borders. So they will always remain on our radar as a threat, as a challenge," he said.
3. Pirates Hijack Two Ships with 22 Indians Aboard

Two Indian commercial vessels have been hijacked by Pirates off the Somali & Yemeni coast, in separate incidents. All 20 crew members are reported to be safe in the first vessel hijacked near Yemen. In the second incident, the ship was seized around 3.5 nautical miles off Marraya in Puntland’s Eyl district and was subsequently taken towards the Nugaal coast.
Officials said that according to the latest information, the Indian crew members are safe. These incidents raise fresh concerns over the safety on ships in and around the Red Sea.
4. Pakistan’s Asim Munir Gets Sweeping Powers over Military

Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir is set to gain increased control over military affairs in Pakistan. This comes with the passing of a new legislation which bring together the Army, Navy & Air Force under a unified command.
The new command structure was created under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, made last year. It replaced the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee with a Chief of Defence Forces, a post concurrently held by Army chief Asim Munir.
5. India Monitors Unusual Chinese and Turkish Military Aircraft Activity in Pakistan

Reports indicate repeated Chinese and Turkish military transport aircraft activity at Pakistani airbases, including Nur Khan and Masroor. Indian security sources are reportedly monitoring the activity amid questions over possible defence equipment transfers or military assistance to Pakistan.
It includes an unusual 60-hour surge of heavy military transport flights from China and Turkey into major Pakistani airbases, sparking strategic concerns over potential covert transfers of advanced defense hardware, drones, and radar systems.
