1. India commemorates the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor

On May 7, 2025, India conducted Operation Sindoor in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. Nine terror sites were struck.

Operation Sindoor stands as a powerful symbol of national resolve and preparedness, demonstrating that the armed forces are always ready to act decisively when it matters most. It also stands as a testament to India’s steady progress towards achieving Atmanirbharta, enhancing capability while reinforcing resilience, according to a post on X by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh.

2. Joint Commanders’ Conference to be held on May 7

The second Joint Commanders’ Conference (JCC) 2026, themed ‘Military Capability in New Domains’, will be held at South Western Command, Jaipur, on May 7–8, bringing together the top leadership of the Indian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence.

Coinciding with the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the conference will focus on future warfare and emerging domains such as cyber, space, and cognitive warfare, while advancing Atmanirbharta through innovation, indigenisation, and civil-military fusion. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will attend the conference.

3. India and Cambodia commence military exercise CINBAX-II

The second edition of the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Cambodian Army commenced with an opening ceremony at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia.

The exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations, enhancing cohesion, jointness, and interoperability, while strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation.

4. RM holds talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Vietnam

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Phan Van Giang, in New Delhi on May 6.

The meeting was marked by warmth and growing strategic trust, reflecting the deep-rooted Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam. Both leaders reviewed ongoing defence cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in bilateral engagements, including high-level exchanges, training programmes, and capacity-building initiatives. They also acknowledged the growing convergence in strategic interests, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

5. INS Sindhukesari departs Sri Lanka

Indian Navy submarine INS Sindhukesari, which arrived in Sri Lanka to undertake operational turnarounds, departed the island on May 6 after completing the intended engagements.

The Sri Lanka Navy accorded a customary farewell to the submarine at the Port of Colombo in keeping with naval traditions. INS Sindhukesari arrived on May 3. Meanwhile, the submarine’s Commanding Officer called on the Commander, Western Naval Area, at the Western Naval Command Headquarters.

6. Royal Netherlands Navy ship arrives in Kochi

Royal Netherlands Navy Ship HNLMS De Ruyter (F804), a De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate, arrived in Kochi on May 4.

The visit coincides with that of a high-level delegation comprising Major General (Royal Marines) Rob De Wit, Deputy Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy, and Ms Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.

7. Baykar to supply 12 Kizilelma drones to Indonesia

Baykar has signed an agreement with Indonesian company PT Republikorp for the supply of Bayraktar KIZILELMA unmanned combat aircraft.

Under the agreement, 12 Bayraktar KIZILELMA drones will be delivered to Indonesia starting in 2028. The agreement was signed during the SAHA 2026 International Defence and Aerospace Exhibition held in Istanbul from May 5 to 9. With this deal, Indonesia has become the first customer for the Kizilelma drone.
