1. MoD inks ₹4,666 crore contracts for Close Quarter Battle Carbines and Heavyweight Torpedoes

The Ministry of Defence, on December 30, signed contracts worth a total of ₹4,666 crore for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines and Heavyweight Torpedoes. The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.

The contract for over 4.25 lakh CQB Carbines, along with accessories, worth ₹2,770 crore, for the Indian Army and the Indian Navy, was signed with Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd. The contract for the procurement and integration of 48 Heavyweight Torpedoes, along with associated equipment, for Kalvari Class submarines (P-75) of the Indian Navy, at an approximate cost of ₹1,896 crore, was signed with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy.

2. Airbus selected for Spain’s ITS-C

The Spanish Defence Ministry has selected Airbus Defence and Space to lead the development and implementation of the Spanish Air Force’s new combat Integrated Training System (ITS-C). The contract, led jointly by Airbus as national coordinator for Spain, with Turkish Aerospace as manufacturer of the Hürjet platform, aims to replace the current F-5 aircraft fleet and cover the entire advanced training process for Spanish combat pilots.

This includes the acquisition of 30 Hürjet jet trainers from Turkish Aerospace, conversion of the fleet with Spanish content to meet customer requirements, the creation of an Aircraft Conversion Centre in Spain, refurbishment of the Training Centre at the Fighter and Attack School at Talavera la Real Air Base in Extremadura, and the provision of an integrated set of operation and maintenance services at the base.

3. Saab receives contract for two GlobalEye AEW&C aircraft

Saab has entered into a contract with the French General Directorate of Armaments (Direction Générale de l’Armement – DGA) for the supply of two GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, including ground equipment, training, and support. The order value is approximately SEK 12.3 billion, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032.

4. Airbus Defence and Space and Indra Group selected for SIGINT aircraft study for Spain

Airbus Defence and Space and Indra Group have been selected by the Spanish Ministry of Defence to conduct a conceptual definition study for the future Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft of the Spanish Air and Space Force.

The 18-month study will analyse and define the most suitable platform and signals intelligence systems to deliver a national solution based on three aircraft capable of detecting, tracking, classifying, and identifying targets of interest to the Spanish Armed Forces.

Airbus Defence and Space will develop a proposal for an aircraft tailored to Spanish requirements and, together with Indra, will study the integration of electronic intelligence and communications intelligence systems as a preliminary step towards defining the programme’s development and implementation.
